Two Pianos in One: The latest Tippet Rise podcast
June 7, 2019
Tippet Rise celebrates the synergy of art, architecture, music and nature—and the art center’s podcast explores these synergies. The June episode of the podcast, “Two Pianos in One,” invites listeners into the Olivier Music Barn to a conversation that took place between three extraordinarily talented (and, as it turns out, extraordinarily funny) musicians. Pianists Michael Brown, Adam Golka, and Roman Rabinovich traveled to Tippet Rise in January to record three solo albums for the British label, First Hand Records. The night they arrived, the three young artists were faced with the task of selecting from the art center’s collection of Steinways a single piano on which to record. What might sound like an easy task is not so simple. “Like every pianist, pianos have their own unique characteristics. Choosing the perfect pairing of musician and instrument can be a challenge, but it can also be a lot of fun,” wrote Zachary Patten who recorded, narrated, and produced this episode of the Tippet Rise Podcast. You can listen to this conversation–and hear the artists’ process of selection, which involved playing, listening, no small amount of banter, and even a “vow of silence”–by clicking the link below.
