The Olivier Music Barn receives green building seal of approval!
January 4, 2019
We are so proud to announce that the Olivier Music Barn at Tippet Rise has just received LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for the Barn’s environmentally sustainable design and systems.
The LEED rating system, developed by the nonprofit USGBC, is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. LEED is an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
Like all of the buildings on the Cottonwood Campus at Tippet Rise, the Olivier Music Barn was designed with high standards of sustainability, including low-carbon emissions and near-net-zero energy consumption. All buildings on the campus are heated and cooled with a geothermal energy system; 8,000 square-feet of solar panels provides light and power to buildings and vehicles. Water consumption is minimized by collecting and reusing rain and snowmelt for irrigation. This all happens on a working cattle and sheep ranch where land preservation, range management and habitat restoration efforts are meant to benefit the native plants, wildlife and watersheds across the art center’s 12,000 acres.
We at Tippet Rise would like to thank the staff members, contractors and advisors who worked so hard to shepherd the art center through this rigorous certification process…and offer our many thanks to the USGBC for their leadership in promoting environmentally sustainable building practices worldwide.
