December’s Tippet Rise Podcast
December 5, 2019
Julien Brocal is a familiar face at Tippet Rise. Here, and around the world, the French pianist and composer has championed some of the genuinely iconic piano repertoire by composers like Ravel, Debussy, and Mompou, and he’s performed his own compositions.
Recently, Julien was invited back to Tippet Rise for a three-week residency. The plan was this: the artist would spend the first two weeks immersed in nature and in the creative practice—exploring the land on and around Tippet Rise, tuning in to its sounds and its rhythms. Come nightfall, he would compose. The final week of his stay would be dedicated to recording his new compositions, which could then be shared with the world.
As fate would have it, Julien’s entire residency and the creation of his beautiful piano music almost didn’t happen. Time and time again, roadblocks appeared, and circumstances almost proved impossible.
But music often finds a way and, in this case, it did. For more of Julien’s story, told over two episodes of the Tippet Rise Podcast, please click on “More info,” below.
