Announcing the 2022 concert season at Tippet Rise!
March 8, 2022
We are thrilled to announce details of the 2022 concert season at Tippet Rise Art Center! The five-week season, August 26 – September 25, features the performances of more than 50 works and 15 concerts by internationally acclaimed artists. Spanning four centuries and offering a fantastic range of music, this year’s concerts are performed by musicians in all stages of their careers – from the stars of tomorrow, such as violinist Geneva Lewis and cellist Sterling Elliott, to the most respected and sought-after performers of the world’s concert stages, such as pianists Richard Goode and Marc-André Hamelin.
“Over the past two years, our team at Tippet Rise has expanded the wonderful resources on our website, sharing performances and films to move people wherever they live,” said Peter and Cathy Halstead, co-founders of Tippet Rise Art Center. “But there is nothing to compare with the experience that Tippet Rise was founded to offer: the immediacy of live music and the personal experience of being alone with sculpture in our vast landscape; music in spaces designed to emulate acclaimed acoustic precedents and art in a triangulation that enlarges music with Montana’s immense skies and its rolling hills. We are thrilled and grateful to be able to gather once again with our audience, who this year will discover new concert artists and repertoire, and dramatic new sculptures, which expand the Tippet Rise experience they already know.”
The 2022 Concert Season
Continuing Tippet Rise’s commitment to commissioning new works, the season features three world premieres, two of them Tippet Rise commissions. The first of these will be performed by returning artist, Canadian cellist Arlen Hlusko on August 26. Written by Reena Esmail, this new work is a celebration of Hlusko’s September Commissioning Cello project in which she invited any composer to write music she could record while isolated due to the pandemic, resulting in more than 20 pieces. On September 2, renowned pianist and Tippet Rise’s artistic advisor Pedja Mužijević will present the world premiere performance of three movements from Gregory Spears’ cycle Seven Days, a collection of 21 solo piano works composed during the pandemic. The second Tippet Rise commission of the season will be performed by violinist and debut artist Johnny Gandelsman on September 25, as part of his commissioning project This is America. Dólii for Guitar was written by Bojan Louis, a poet, composer, and member of the Navajo Nation.
Additional artists making their Tippet Rise debuts include pianists Yulianna Avdeeva, Zoltán Fejérvári, Richard Goode, Marc-André Hamelin, Audrey Vardanega, and Wynona Wang; violinist Geneva Lewis; violist Jordan Bak; cellist Sterling Elliott; flutist Alex Sopp; and the Aizuri Quartet
We are also excited to welcome back old friends including violinists Jennifer Frautschi and Katie Hyun; cellist Gabriel Cabezas; violist Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt; flutist Brandon Patrick George; Sandbox Percussion; the Calidore String Quartet; and the Gryphon Trio.
